Did I miss something?

A big topic of discussion in the sports world today has been the way the Canadian Women’s Hockey team decided to celebrate their gold medal victory over the United States.

Apparently, AFTER, the stadium had emptied out the players decided to head back onto the ice to further celebrate their win. Turns out there were a few photographers remaining who caught some pictures of the “shenanigans”. Think lots of beer, champagne and cigars.

Sounds like a pretty good time right? Photos like this one tell me that this is a place I would have liked to be. The IOC has come down on the team and the Canadians eventually put out a apology.

I’m not sure what exactly they are apologizing for. Celebrating like this is very common in other sports, particularly baseball. Is this a big deal because it was women?

What I find great is that they were trying to drive the zamboni around the ice.

Ryan Grant is Under Appreciated

February 16th, 2010 by Mike Sweeney

ryan-grant-aaron-rodgers-2009-12-27-15-43-5Listening to 540am, ESPN radio here in Milwaukee, on my way home from work today, it was brought to my attention that Ryan Grant averaged 4.4 yards per carry this past season.

Pretty good right? I’d take that every year from Ryan Grant or any running back for that matter. What makes the stat interesting is that Adrian Peterson averaged the same yards per carry.

Yes! Adrian Peterson! You know the guy who everyone likes to call the best running back in the league? The guy with the commercials, the FANTASY MACHINE that everyone loves.

@espnhomer is claiming that Ryan Grant had a better year than Adrian Peterson and it is hard to disagree. Peterson finished the season with 7 fumbles (9 counting the NFC championship game), while Grant finished with ZERO. Peterson however had more touchdowns with 18 compared to Grant’s 11. This could partially be due to the fact that Peterson had more touches than Grant in 2009. (314 attempts vs 282)

Turnovers are a huge deal. Fumbling gets players benched. A fumble can sometimes be just as big a deal as a touchdown. All we have to do is look to the NFC Championship game from 2009 to see how important turnovers, specifically fumbles, are.

Ryan Grant is an under appreciated player by Packers fans. I have been guilty of this myself. He isn’t flashy and his detractors would say that he can’t “make people miss”. But when you look at it the stats, they are there and the way he was able to protect the ball this past season was impressive. I would compare Grant to an Emmitt Smith type runner. Don’t get me wrong I don’t think Ryan Grant is one of the greatest backs of all time but I think their running styles are similar.

So what do you think? Did Ryan Grant have a better year than Adrian Peterson? Most people would probably be shocked that you could even make the argument.
